Once in a crowded lecture theater, we were told to look to the left and to the right of us, we were then told that those to our left and right are our competition along, of course, with the entire world and that they will take our jobs if we are not as good as the people to our left and right. While technically true, I talk about the problem with the way this is framed as it caused hostile unfriendly competition and gatekeeping rather than friendly competition and also preventing creative collaboration.
